Hello! My name is Rachel Smith. I am a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in Utah, and the founder of Mountainside Speech Therapy. As the second child of nine, I have always loved spending time with children and helping them grow and develop. With a passion for pediatric speech, language, and literacy development, I promote evidence-based practices for supporting children’s listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in both academic and private settings.
I hold extensive training in creating and implementing individual treatment plans based on the most up-to-date research and the unique needs of each and every client. When not working, I find joy in the simple things of life, including nature walks, singing birds, dancing, music, and conversations with family/friends.
Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Master of Science in Clinical Speech-Language Pathology from Northern Arizona University.
Bachelor of Science in Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education from Utah State University.
What Makes Us Stand Out
Do you have a child with developmental, speech, language, or reading disabilities (including dyslexia)? Mountainside Speech Therapy offers individualized therapy sessions to help improve their speaking and reading skills. Let’s get your child the treatment they deserve!
Speech-Language Pathologists are uniquely skilled when it comes to comprehensive evaluations for speech, language, and reading development (including dyslexia). Because the speech, language, and reading systems in the brain are highly intertwined, a comprehensive evaluation from a Speech-Language Pathologist, who specializes in all three, is very important. This is often the missing piece that parents may not get from other professionals, when trying to identify why their child is struggling with communication or literacy skills.
Many learning difficulties, especially those related to reading and writing, are related to underlying deficits in speech/language development. I truly love working with kids and seeing them thrive in a learning environment.
In-Person or Online Sessions
Speech therapy and reading sessions can be scheduled in-person at my office, online, or occasionally in your home (though a travel fee may apply).
With the COVID-19 pandemic, many people became more familiar with video conferencing, but teletherapy for speech therapy was around long before the pandemic started, and it has just gotten bigger since then. Online treatment is a valid form of speech and reading therapy for many clients.
I am a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in Utah with a B.S. degree in Communicative Disorders & Deaf Education from Utah State University (2013) and a M.S. degree in Clinical Speech-Language Pathology from Northern Arizona University (2020). I received the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2021.
I have helped hundreds of students in Utah public schools since 2016, which brings a host of professional experiences to my private practice. I participate in ongoing professional development related to speech, language, or reading development, in order to maintain my licensure and professional knowledge.
