The initial appointment will be tailored to your child’s needs. For example, for a late-talking toddler, or someone struggling to say speech sounds, I start with a clinical observation and then begin treatment within the same session. For concerns with reading and spelling, I first administer an intervention assessment to identify treatment goals. If you are also seeking a diagnosis, such as Dyslexia or Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), then there is a longer process involved. For more information, review the sections below.

Mountainside Speech & Reading is a private-pay only provider, which means I am not credentialed with any insurance companies.
By not involving an insurance company, all clinical decisions regarding your child’s treatment are based solely on my professional knowledge and skills, and your personal preference as a parent, without any 3rd party influence.
When an insurance company is paying for a child’s treatment, they may set restrictions on how often you can come, require pre-authorization, or define what activities constitute a billable session. Additionally, many families who have not met their insurance deductibles may end up paying more out-of-pocket at a contracted insurance rate than at a private-pay rate.
As a private-pay provider, the following methods of payment are accepted:
- Credit/debit cards
- HSA cards, for eligible services
Scholarships for potential reimbursement include:
- Children First Education Fund
- Utah Fits All Scholarship
**These scholarships are not affiliated with Mountainside Speech & Reading. Before submitting for reimbursement, all invoices must be paid directly to Mountainside Speech & Reading. There is no guarantee of reimbursement.
